Friday of the First Week of Lent
Frequently, during this time of the year, we ask ourselves what we will “give up” for Lent. We may follow a plan that is similar to the one we had last year, or we may need something different. However, Lent involves more than giving up or sacrificing something we like because one of the reasons we do this is to improve ourselves; to become better versions of ourselves. Regardless of the difficulties we face, or the self-assumptions we have, every season of Lent is another opportunity for us to be closer to God by reflecting on our actions and what we could do better. This is what we could see in today’s Gospel and the first reading. God is more interested in us changing our actions, behaviors or lifestyle that does not align with His Word. If we allow ourselves to accept His love and to start over, our past circumstances will no longer be a heavy load. For Him, it is more important to have a close relationship with Him. We should not take this lightly. Therefore, let us take this Lent season as one more opportunity to continue improving our friendship with God while strengthening our faith and trust in Him.
In the middle of our journey for this Lent, let us remember that even in the midst of our battles, God is always with us. Joan Sanchez’s song “Sigo Adorando” (“I Keep Worshiping") is a good friendly reminder.
Beautifully expressed, Airam.
