Friday of the Third Week in Advent

Today's Readings

During St. Clare & St. Francis Week this past October at St. Francis College, we emphasized a simple Franciscan principle that had not been directly spoken about in previous years. The principle is Sharing the Good. A key feature of our programming that week was a talent show which showcased the talents of several members of our community. They shared their good which, in turn, enriched everyone; we went from sharing good individually to being better collectively.

This principle is a beacon for this reflection series. All Good Things is all about sharing the good in terms of our unique perspectives which help to unify us and make us a stronger community. Sharing can be a deeply powerful experience whether you deem your contributions to be significant or not. Part of the beauty of sharing is that we do not always know how something we share can impact someone's life. Simply sharing a little bit about where we are from can spark a friendship that will last the rest of our lives. A lecture can lead a student to dedicate their life to a certain field of study or career path. A note of encouragement can make someone stop in their tracks and reconsider their decisions.

Now, we may not profoundly alter each other's lives today, but I want to encourage you to make a comment on this post below. Take a moment to share some of the good that you have found from this reflection series, today's readings (linked at the top of the page), the season of Advent, this year, or something you are hoping for in 2023. I think you can even share anonymously if desired. Take just a few minutes of this day, Friday, December 16, 2022, and share a thought, a reflection, an encouragement, a link to a song or video that has inspired you, a recipe you love, a Christmas tradition, or all of the above! Let's fill the comments section below with...all good things.

  4. I see "the good" in how the people who contribute to these Advent reflections help demonstrate Christ's immanence in this world. I am always heartened by the contributions coming from our own SFC community, and especially our students. They show a depth of faith that enriches us all.

  5. If one reads them daily, they cause the reader to take a few moments out of their probable busy days to reflect on the season and what is truly important this time of the year. They help those who cannot attend daily mass.
