Thursday of the First Week of Lent
"The Responsorial Psalm is..."
I always look forward to this part of the scriptures.
The responsorial psalm calls us to listen and affirm how God speaks to us.
The responsorial psalm is praise, direction, wisdom and mystery all together in one sentence.
It reminds me of a chorus in song lyrics.
Today the Responsorial Psalm is:
"Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me."
Living these past 2 years during this pandemic I can verify that I have been calling the Lord for help in so many ways. Sometimes I just can't believe all that has happened...Fear, challenge, heartbreak, disbelief and uncertainty are constant.
"When I called, you answered me; you built up strength within me."
That strength is our faith, always being fortified, especially in difficult times. Just recently on a whirlwind day I realized that the Lord has been by my side this whole time, even carrying me.
I can't imagine life with an absence of faith.
The song, "Better Than A Hallelujah," written by Sarah Hart and Chapin Hartford and performed by Amy Grant, speaks to me reflecting the responsorial psalm for today:
Chorus:
We pour out our miseries, God just hears a melody
Beautiful the mess we are, the honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah...
Better than a Hallelujah sometimes.
The Lord is walking beside us through these days of Lent and beyond.
Each time we listen to, speak and pray with a responsorial psalm we continue to strengthen our faith.
