Wednesday of the First Week of Advent

Jesus feeds his followers with food, which is his word. There is more than enough to satisfy our hunger as we listen and digest to feel the peace it brings. He notices when we are suffering and without a second thought, reaches out to our needs. The theme throughout this reading is compassion and love. We will come across a variety of people who are overcoming their own obstacles, physically and/or mentally.  God calls on us constantly to help those around us even if we do not have a lot to give. Having compassion allows us to provide what we can to heal those who are suffering. We do not realize how much we have to offer until it is shared. It must be remembered that small is beautiful. The little resources that are offered are filled with abundance. Jesus saw the opportunity to provide to the crowd rather than the problem, and his offering was limitless. Love is not always practical, but God understands our sacrifices and, in return, he will always be there for us. He teaches us that compassion and love will succeed in the world despite weaknesses and frailties.

  1. Thanks for that lovely reflection. It was just what I needed today. All the troublesome events going on make me feel it's imperative for me to increase my empathy and compassion, to become much more other-directed this season.
