Today's Readings

In today's reading we are reminded that it is never too late to change ways.
In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of a father and two sons. As they share their inheritance, one son stays alongside his father and the other takes his part and leaves.
As time passes, the son who left runs through his portion and soon realizes his fathers wealth spreads far beyond monetary value.
The community his father supports through good faith, will and care will never run dry, just as the traveling sons inheritance has.
When the son returns home, his brother is confused as to why his father would welcome him back. The father states, "we must rejoice for he was lost, but now is found."
May we all take this and realize through life when we may find ourselves lost, there is always a community that will welcome us to be found. Whether we are that community for others or look for that community in return, never loose faith that one persons good will can ignite a community.

    1. Thoughtful application of a familiar story. It reminds me that if we only look we can find Christ in those around us.

Thank you for today’s reflection. Each time I read this parable I am reminded of my Papi and how after 22 years we connected. I visited him in FLA. We cried, hugged and celebrated for we were both lost and through the mercy of God found our way to each other. My Papi is gone now but that moment in time is ever stamped on my heart. Un millón de gracias!

I've commented briefly about our St. Francis statue.

ST. FRANCIS STATUE in SFC Lobby-- Have you noticed the bird in St. Francis hand, looking up at St. Francis? To me it symbolically represents nurturing. The bird is free to fly to test his/her wings and to return and to fly again all the while having a place to land. "Experience is an excellent teacher. Learn. Move forward. Live in the present. And, the future falls into place." (N.Balkon, 2012)
