Saturday of the First Week of Lent

VIEW TODAY'S READINGS

"Today you are making this agreement with the LORD: he is to be your God and you are to walk in his ways... And today the LORD is making this agreement with you... provided you keep all his commandments; he will then raise you high in praise and renown and glory..."

During this Lenten season, I did not choose to give something up like coffee, gum, or soda. Instead, I decided to do something every single day over the 40 days of Lent, to strengthen my relationship with God. I think today’s reading was spot on with the way I have been feeling towards my faith. Knowing God is always around us, within us, and can work through us, gives me this sense of peace.

"Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!"

We are human, we are not perfect. It is the effort we put into all that we do, that defines who we are and where we want to go. This reading explains to us that God will always return the time and love we give to Him. This way of living can easily translate to how we interact with other human beings. Sayings such as, "you get what you give," or, of course, the Golden Rule, "Treat others the way you want to be treated." God will never turn His back on us; He will always forgive, but, especially during this Lenten season, maybe we can think about all the things God has given and done for us, and how we can show appreciation and gratitude back to Him.

This Lenten season, let us strengthen our relationship with God. Whether it is being kinder to yourself or others, God is within all of us. How can we change our relationship with Him from now until Easter Sunday, and every day after that?
