Friday of the First Week of Advent
✠ | TODAY'S READINGS
The First Reading for
December 3, 2021 is Isaiah 29:17-24. Isaiah 29:18 says: “On that day the deaf
shall hear the words of a book; And out of gloom and darkness, the eyes of the
blind shall see.” The reading is meant to give us a boost of hope. It reminds
us that God can make the impossible possible. Many individuals are born deaf or
blind, and doctors try their best to help them recover their senses. Sometimes
there is no cure to help these individuals to restore their sense. God tells us
that the blind will see and the deaf will hear, God wants us to remember that
he can make anything possible even if science says otherwise.
The same teaching is seen
in the Gospel, Matthew 9:28 “… Jesus said to them, ‘Do you believe that I can
do this?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ they said to him.” Jesus makes the two blind men see
again which is meant to teach us to have hope because God can do anything
against all odds. In addition, this Gospel teaches us that having faith in God
can help us achieve anything and everything. The faith that these men had in
Jesus was what helped them restore sight again.
During this time of Advent,
we should learn to strengthen our hope and faith. We should have hope that the
struggles we are going through will turn out okay and be well because God is
with us. We should have faith in God that he knows what he is doing and that he
has a plan for us. Take some time today to reflect on how you can incorporate
hope and faith in your life during this time of Advent.
