Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Advent

In today’s First Reading, the Lord assures us that he is coming and is sending his messenger to prepare the way for him. As I reflect on this reading and the Advent season, how are we preparing for the Lord's arrival? The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have changed every part of our lives. From virtual learning to watching Mass on livestreams, the direct connection between us and our everyday lives has been upended. With the difficulties and hardships this year has presented, I find comfort and connection in the familiar sights of Christmas preparation. Lights on the houses, trees decorated in the windows and holiday favorites like the Charlie Brown Christmas Special on TV. With the familiar sights of preparation visible on the streets and in the media, how can we create the familiar feelings of preparation in our hearts? We must remind ourselves of the blessings we receive each and every day, offer prayers of thanksgiving that we have made it this far and open our hearts to the challenges and lessons that the Lord gives us each and every day. In this season of Advent prepare yourselves for the Lord, prepare for blessings and the challenges he will present unto us. For it is He who refines us and purifies us!

  2. Thoughtfully written , Michael. Grace is all around us, found in even the most familiar of things.
